Wpath provides opportunities for professionals from various sub-specialties to communicate with each other in the context of research and treatment of gender dysphoria including sponsoring biennial scientific symposia.
The global education initiative (gei) provides courses to a variety of audiences. Attendees from many countries are encouraged to provide constructive feedback, which the board reviews thoroughly. In attendance at gei courses are psychologists, psychiatrists, therapists, social workers, family practice providers, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, endocrinologists, urologists, gynecologists, plastic surgeons and professional educators. Also in attendance are spiritual leaders, students, addiction counselors, HIV case managers, and researchers. Attendees have worked at military bases, the pentegon, federal and state correctional institutions, medical schools, private practices, public health departments, clinics and community hospitals. More than anything else, we have realized that there is much more to be done. We are currently forming task forces to assist in creating targeted training to meet the varied educational needs of providers and improve access to care.
The organization promotes the highest standards of health care for individuals through the articulation of standards of care (soc) for the health of transsexual, transgender, and gender nonconforming people. The soc are based on the best available science and expert professional consensus. Volume 7 of the standards of care is available in 18 different languages. Volume 8 is in process.
